Frond is a plant herbarium app for Android. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: your specimen records stay on your phone, and Frond has no server of its own.
Your specimens — photographs, names, notes, dates, and locations you type in — are stored in Frond's private storage on your phone. They are not uploaded to us, backed up to any service we run, or shared with anyone. If you uninstall Frond, that data is deleted with it.
Frond's identification features use Google's Gemini API with an API key that you supply. That key is stored only on your device and is sent only to Google, as part of making the request you asked for. We never receive it, and we have no way to read it.
When you ask Frond to identify a specimen, the photograph and any text you included are sent to Google's Gemini API so it can respond. That request is between your device and Google, governed by Google's Privacy Policy and the terms attached to your own API key. Frond does not keep a copy of those requests, and no part of the exchange passes through a server we operate. If you never use the identification features, nothing leaves your phone at all.
The one-time unlock is sold through Google Play. Google handles the entire transaction and tells Frond only whether the purchase exists. We do not see or store your name, address, card number, or any other payment detail.
Frond is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Because everything lives on your device, you are in control: delete individual specimens inside the app, or uninstall Frond to remove all of it at once. There is nothing held elsewhere for us to delete on your behalf.
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top.
