Manifold
com.aebu.manifold · Effective July 29, 2026
Manifold is an automotive diagnostic app. It reads trouble codes and live data from your vehicle through an OBD2 adapter, and it can send a description of your vehicle and its codes to Google's Gemini AI service to produce a plain-English diagnosis.
There is no Manifold account, no Manifold server, and no analytics or advertising in this app. I do not receive, store, or see your vehicle data. What follows is a plain account of what leaves your phone, what stays on it, and who else is involved.
01What stays on your device
All of your records live in the app's own storage on your phone and nowhere else:
- Your vehicles — year, make, model, mileage, nickname, and notes
- Your VIN, if the app reads one from your vehicle
- Scan history — trouble codes, check-engine-light status, battery voltage, live readings
- Service and maintenance records you enter
- Saved diagnoses and chat history
- Your Gemini API key
Your VIN is never transmitted anywhere. When Manifold asks Gemini about your vehicle it sends the year, make, and model — not the VIN that identifies your specific car.
Uninstalling Manifold, or clearing its data in Android Settings, deletes all of it permanently. There is no copy anywhere else for me to delete on your behalf.
02What is sent to Google Gemini
Manifold uses your own Google Gemini API key, which you supply. When you ask for a diagnosis or use the mechanic chat, the app sends the following directly to Google's Gemini API over an encrypted connection:
- Your vehicle's year, make, model, and mileage
- The trouble codes and scan results relevant to your question
- The text of your messages
- Any photo you choose to attach to a message
This data goes from your phone to Google. It does not pass through any server of mine, and your API key is sent only to Google as authentication for your own account.
Worth knowing: Google's handling of this data depends on which Gemini API tier your key is on. On the free tier, Google may use your prompts and attached images to improve its products. On a paid tier it does not. This is Google's policy, not mine, and it applies to your key rather than to Manifold. If that matters to you, review the Gemini API Terms and the Google Privacy Policy before entering a key.
You can use Manifold's OBD2 scanning, code lookup, garage, and maintenance features without ever entering a key. Nothing leaves your phone unless you use an AI feature.
03Your vehicle connection
Manifold connects to an OBD2 adapter over Bluetooth to talk to your vehicle. Android requires Bluetooth permission for this. The connection is local, between your phone and the adapter in your dash — no vehicle data is transmitted anywhere as a result of pairing or scanning.
04Camera and photos
If you attach a photo to a chat message, Manifold reads that one image so it can be sent to Gemini with your question. The app does not browse, index, or upload your photo library, and it takes no photo you did not choose or capture yourself.
05Purchases
The one-time full-version unlock is handled entirely by Google Play Billing. Google processes the payment and tells the app only whether the unlock is owned. I never see your name, card, or billing address.
06Children
Manifold is a tool for vehicle owners and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect any information from children.
07Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Material changes affecting what leaves your device will also be noted in the app's release notes.
